Poncek, Sophia "Sue" Cecelia (October 10, 1926 - January 17, 2011)

Former Westboro resident Sophia "Sue" Cecelia Poncek, 84, Niles, Ill., died Monday, Jan 17 at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Ill.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake, with Father Otto Bucher officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Westboro.

Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Sophia Poncek was born on October 10, 1926 in Westboro to the late Bruno and Josephine (Kolodziejczyk) Poncek. She attended school in Westboro. She had resided in the Chicago, Ill., area for many years.

Survivors include three children, Theresa, Denise and Kenneth; a brother, John (Geraldine) of Westboro; four sisters, Mary (John) Korniek, Evangeline (Tom) Culbertson, Margaret Boyd, all of the Chicago area, and Julie Kampa of Greendale; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph; four sisters, Nellie (Merwin) Krause, Anna (Harold) Wennerstrand, Bernice (Paul) Johnson and Betty (Willard) Lennartz; and a brother-in-law, Roy Kampa.

Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.
