Meier, Marie Johanna (Morey) (May 19, 1949 - August 28, 2011)

Marie Johanna Meier, 62, Spirit, died on Sunday, Aug. 28.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Sept. 5 at Ogema Baptist Church, with Pastor Duane Harper and Pastor Dick Wohler officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Spirit. Pallbearers are Andy Holmquist, Dean Gilge, Ted Bankes, Ivan Kauer, Eric Gladson, Tim Nelson and David Tilus.


Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday, Sept. 4 from 4 to 7 p.m., and on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.


Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.


The former Marie Morey was born on May 19, 1949 in Phillips to the late Donald "Micky" and Alice (Hummitsch) Morey. She was a 1967 graduate of Phillips High School, and was employed by Employers Insurance.


On June 7, 1969 at St. John Lutheran Church in Phillips, she married Gene Meier, who survives. They moved to their home farm, known as Funny Face, on County Road YY in Spirit.


She was a member of Spirit Baptist Church, and longtime 4-H club leader and board member of Spirit-Hill-Ogema 4-H fair. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, stamping, feeding the humming birds, and playing Racko with her grandkids.


In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Johanna (Troy) Holliday of Minneapolis, MN; a son, Lance (Jenna) of Spirit; two brothers, Wayne (Diane) of Brantwood and Carl of Marquette, MI; 11 grandchildren, Andrew, James, Emily, Jessica, Lauren, Abby and Ella Holliday of Minneapolis, and Hesston, Tirah, Taylor and Lane Meier of Spirit; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.


Memorials in her honor may be given to the family.
