Stewart, Monica "Jan" Janet (Hilgart) (February 18, 1938 - November 29, 2011)

Monica "Jan" Janet Stewart, 73, Medford, died on Tuesday, Nov. 29 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, Dec. 3 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Gerard Willger and Deacon Joe Stefancin officiating.

Pallbearers were Bob Stewart, Tom Stewart, Robert Rogaczewski, Jade Brehm, Atisha Zentner and Jim Dorwardt.


Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.


The former Monica Hilgart was born on February 18, 1938 in Park Falls to the late Bruno and Vera (Miller) Hilgart. She attended St. Anthony Catholic School and Wilson Grade School, and was a 1956 graduate of Lincoln High School.


She married Kenneth Rude at Peace Lutheran Church in Park Falls, and they later divorced.

On January 1, 1977 at the Lutheran church in Colby, she married Leroy Stewart, who survives.

She worked as a bookkeeper at Stewart Lumber from 1977 to 1987, then owned and operated Florena's Supper Club from 1987 until retiring in 1992.


She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and past member of the Rib Lake Commercial Club. She enjoyed cooking, crafts and camping.


In addition to her husband, survivors include two children, Dale A. (Renee) Rude of Winter Haven, Fla., and Dawn M. (Larry) Zentner of Westboro; five step-children, Penny (Dennis) Bryn of Wausau, and Rick Stewart, Jim Stewart, Tom Stewart and Bob Stewart, all of Rib Lake; a brother, Bruno "Sonny" (Katie) of Glendive, Mont.; two sisters, Shirley (Joe) Chafer of Lombard, Ill., and Vicky (Ray) Cowan of Rib Lake; three grandchildren, Atisha M. Zentner of Westboro and Cameron and Jordan Rude of Florida; three step-grandchildren, Lori (Alex) Blennert of Raleigh, N.C., Shandy (Stan) Roberts of Wausau and Kara Bryn of Janesville; three step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Frank.


In lieu of flowers, memorials in her honor may be given to Palliative Care Unit at Wausau Aspirus Hospital or the Arthritis Foundation.
