Mroz, Russell Richard (7 June 1922 - 27 Aug. 2004)

Russell R. Mroz, 82, of Cable, passed away on Fri., Aug. 27, 2004, at the Hayward Nursing Home.

Russell Richard Mroz was born June 7, 1922, in Wisconsin Rapids, the son of John and Anna (Klonowski) Mroz. Russell graduated from Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids. After graduation he worked at Consolidated Papers in Wisconsin Rapids. He then joined the Army and served during World War II. For his time in the service he was honored with the American Theater Service Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Service Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on Feb. 14, 1946.

Russell was united in marriage to Ruth Mechler of Marshfield on May 8, 1943, in Los Angeles, Calif. After his time in the Army was completed, Russell and Ruth moved back to Wisconsin Rapids and he worked for 42 years at Consolidated Papers. Russell and Ruth retired in 1984 and moved to Cable, where Russell enjoyed reupholstering furniture in his spare time. Russell was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Cable, and he was a past President for the Lions Club in Cable. He was an avid golfer and worked at the Lakewoods Forest Ridges golf course. He also helped with the Meals on Wheels Program for many years and was a volunteer for the Fat Tire Festival and Birkebeiner Ski Race. Russell enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting and will be missed by many.

Russell is survived by his wife, Ruth of Cable; three sons, David (Deborah) Mroz of Northville, Mich., the Rev. Fr. Richard Mroz of Tomahawk, and Paul (Sandi) Mroz of Wisconsin Rapids; two daughters, Suzanne (Roger) Chernik of Racine, and Barbara (Jack Bradley) Mroz of Middleton; six grandchildren; one sister, Marie (Joe) Kwasigroch of Wisconsin Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Leo Mroz.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Mon., Aug. 30, at the St. Ann Catholic Church in Cable, with the Rev. Fr. Richard Mroz officiating. Music was provided by Jan Paulik and Monica Rice. A time of gathering with family and friends was held from 9 - 11 a.m. on Mon. at the church. Military rites were accorded by the American Legion Stokes-Liebman Post #48. Interment was in the St. Ann Cemetery in Cable.

Honorary bearers were Bob Dolan, Don Eglseder, Jack Kramer, Joe Kwasigroch, Tom Paulsen and Milford Place.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Russell’s family.

The Anderson-Nathan Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
