Merow, Alice M. (23 January 1929 – 19 January 2009)

Alice M. Merow, 79, of Sparta died Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at Pine View Care Center, Black River Falls.

She was born Jan. 23, 1929, in Sparta to Milo and Harriet (Affeldt) Powell. She grew up in the Sparta area and graduated from Sparta High School in 1948.

Alice married Lynn M. Merow June 10, 1948, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sparta. They lived all of their married lives in the Town of Little Falls.

She was a past 4-H leader. Alice was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Lynn of Sparta; children, Marilyn (David) Woodworth of Kendall and their children, Cheryl, Jennifer, Scott and Stuart, Peggy (William) Weber of Arlington and their children, Amy and William, Mark (Darlene) Merow of Sparta and their children, Kelly, Cassy and Wayne, Christine (Patrick) Baierl of Luxemburg and their children, Alison, Suzanne and Mary, Karl (Cindy) Merow of Sparta and their children, Amanda, Jason, Sarah and Chad, Pamela (Scott) Vieth of Sparta and their children, Adam, Matthew and Kimberly, and Janet (Dean) Loeffler of West Salem; son-in-law, Bing Zillmer of Holmen, and his children, Carol and Susan; 30 great-grandchildren; two brothers; and six sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Linda Zillmer; a granddaughter, Tammy Hansen; a grandson, Andrew Vieth; and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sparta, with Reverend Mark Wessel officiating. Burial will be in the Cataract Cemetery, Cataract.

Friends may call at the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the church Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
