Hanson, Janice M. (18 May 1939 – 21 January 2009)

Janice M. Hanson, 69, of Taylor died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Center, La Crosse.

Janice was born May 18, 1939, in Ettrick to parents Carl and Selma (Onsrud) Hoff. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Laura and Anton Moen. Following her high school graduation, Janice attended business school.

Janice married Dean Hanson Oct. 18, 1958, in Blair. The couple lived in Chicago for two years and moved back to Taylor in 1970.

Janice enjoyed caring for her home and family and babysat for families in the Taylor area. She was employed as an auto parts production worker to TRW Automotive in Ettrick for the past 22 years.

Janice will be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother and as a very kind person and good friend. She always put her family first. She had a very positive attitude toward life. Her favorite hobbies included crossword puzzles, antiquing and taking art classes at night with her friend, Marie. She was also a big fan of Elvis Presley.

Survivors include her husband, Dean Hanson; one son, Rick (Emma) Hanson of Blair; two daughters, Julie (Greg) Leonard and Lori Hanson of La Crosse; two sisters, Audrey Berg of Blair and Charlene (Gary) Peterson of Whitehall; her cousin, Allen Moen of rural Ettrick; two step-brothers and one step-sister; eight grandchildren: Laura, Matthew, Stacy, Andrew, Ricky, Jessica, Douglas and Christopher; six great-grandchildren, Drew, Antony, Ashton, Gio, Julian and Jason JR.; besides many other relatives and friends.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents; her aunt and uncle, Laura and Anton Moen; her stepmother, Adeline Hoff; and by her cousin, Joe Moen.

Funeral services for Janice M. Hanson were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at the Taylor Lutheran Church with Reverend Benjamin Ahles-Iverson officiating. Burial took place in Woodlawn Cemetery, rural Taylor. Friends called at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton, on Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and also one hour prior to services at the church.

Casketbearers were Jerry Erickson, Ricky Hanson, Douglas Leonard, Matthew Peterson, Todd Stendahl and Trevor Stendahl.
