Harkner, Timothy J. (3 December 1965 – 29 January 2009)

Timothy J. Harkner, 43, of Millston, and formerly of Portage, died Thursday evening, Jan. 29, 2009, at Black River Memorial Hospital in Black River Falls from injuries he sustained in an automobile accident.

Tim was born Dec. 3, 1965, in Tomah, to Bruce D. and Gertrude (Hajek) Harkner. He attended schools in Tomah and Black River Falls, and graduated from UW-Eau Claire.

He married Brooke Becker in Portage, June 6, 1998.

Tim was employed as a supervisor at Cardinal Glass in Portage for 15 years. The past year, he had been employed at Habelman’s Cranberry Marsh.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and trap shooting. He was an avid Detroit Lions Fan.

Surviving are his son, Cade Timothy, his daughter Abbagail Victoria, and his former wife and good friend, Brooke, all of Portage; his mother Gertrude Harkner of Millston; five brothers, Michael (Kaye) Harkner of Tomah, Richard Harkner of Woodstock, IL, Brian, Keith, and Bruce (Carol) Harkner, all of Millston; four sisters, Deborah (Patrick) Peyton, ME, Barbara (Jeff) Harrison and Sue Harkner, both of Belvedere, IL, and Linda Hendrickson, Tampa, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bruce Harkner, in 1980.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Black River Falls. Reverend John Steiner officiated and burial was in Brookside Cemetery in Millston.

Relatives and friends called at Torgerson’s Funeral Home (715-284-4321) Black River Falls, Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and at the church Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, from 10 a.m. until the time of services. There was a prayer service at the funeral home Sunday at 4 p.m.

Pallbearers were Joel, Joey, and Jason Harkner, Mike Winnie, Chris Hajek and Steve Hines.

Man found pinned in his car – Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an accident Jan. 29 at approximately 10:45 p.m. The caller reported a male subject slumped over the steering wheel of his vehicle on CTH O near Interstate 94.

Timothy J. Harkner, 43, of Millston was found pinned in the vehicle as a result of a collision with a guardrail.

Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies, along with Black River Falls Emergency Medical Services and area fire departments, responded to the scene and worked to extricate Harkner from the vehicle. He was transported to Black River Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:59 p.m.

According to the accident report, Harkner was not wearing a seatbelt when he was found. The incident remains under investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
