Poborsky, Violet M. (19 May 1918 – 9 February 2009)

Violet M. Poborsky, 90, of Black River Falls died Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, in the Black River Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 19, 1918, in the town of Cicero, Outagamie County, to Ole and Ellen (Johnson) Falk.

She was raised in Black Creek and Hatfield. She married Frank Poborsky Jr. June 29, 1940, in Iowa.

During WWII, she worked for Douglas Aircraft in Chicago, IL. Following her husband’s discharge from the Navy, the couple returned to Black River Falls.

In 1952, she and her partner, Irene Prusa, opened the Town & Country Tog Shop and Beauty Shop in downtown Black River Falls. They operated the business until 1969.

She was a former member of the Hatfield Sportsmen’s Club, the Black River Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, the Black River Falls United Methodist Church and the Pink Ladies.

Following Frank’s retirement from the DNR, the couple moved to a new home in Panama City, FL.

In Florida, she belonged to the Woodlawn Garden Club and the Woodlawn Community Club.

The couple moved back to Black River Falls in 1992. Frank preceded Violet in death April 13, 1993.

Surviving are her nephew, Marlon (Geri) Johnson, and a sister-in-law, Georgeanna Koranda, both of Black River Falls. She is also survived by other nieces and nephews.

Graveside memorial funeral services for Violet M. Poborsky will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Black River Falls at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009.

There will be no visitation. Memorials may be given to the Black River Falls United Methodist Church.

Torgerson’s Funeral Service (715-284-4321), Black River Falls, is assisting the family with arrangements.
