Black River Falls, Wis. - Shirley L Johnson ( Mrs. Daniel O. Johnson), 69, 214 Roosevelt Rd. Black River Falls, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, in her home.

The former Shirley L. LaBrum was born on Feb. 3, 1934, in Grand Junction, Colo., to Roscoe and Catherine (Hicks) LaBrum. She was raised in Colorado and Utah.

Shirley married Daniel O. Johnson on Jan. 16, 1950, in Cheyenne, Wyo. The couple lived in various places including Grand Junction, Colo., before settling in Black River Falls in 1962. Dan Johnson died on Aug. 1, 2002.

Shirley had been employed by the Wisconsin Laundry and Drycleaners and also by Dr. V. G. Olson, Optometrist, both of Black River Falls.

She loved flowers and gardening, cooking and crocheting. She crocheted many articles for members of her family. She was also fond of desert decorating and South Western decorating. Shirley will long be remembered for her pleasant personality.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathy (Dave) Fox and Ginger ( Bruce) Johnson, both of Black River Falls; three sons, Daniel D. (Teri) Johnson on Holman, Rock (Pam) Johnson of Warrens, and Dean (Mary) Johnson of Hixton; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five sisters, Virginia Nelson of Mack, Colo., Iona Mackley of Denver, Millie Haynes of Fruita, Colo.,Mary (Tom) Orr of Puyallup, Wash., and Vera (Bill) Mayes of Kelso, Wash.; three brothers, Arthur (Ann) LaBrum of Montrose, Colo., Kenneth (Shirley) LaBrum of Lake Port, Calif., and Thurmer (Bille) LaBrum of St. George, Utah; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Johnson and Faith Gjerseth, both of Black River Falls; two brothers-in-law, Dean and Truman Johnson, both of Black River Falls; and numerous other relatives.

In addition to her husband, Daniel, Shirley was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry and Duane LaBrum.

Funeral services were Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at 10 a.m. from the Buswell Funeral Home and burial was in Riverside Cemetery, both in Black River Falls. The Rev. Calvin Thoreson officated.

Casketbearers were Dan Johnson, Craig Haver, Nicholas Johnson, Eric Johnson, Glenn Casper, Bruce Johnson and Dave Fox.

Family and friends called at the Buswell Funeral Home on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 9 a.m. until services.
