Bergerson, Richard D. “Bergie” (10 June 1942 – 21 May 2009)

Richard D. “Bergie” Bergerson, 66, of Sparta and formerly of Hixton died Thursday, May 21, 2009 in the Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse.

Bergie was born June 10, 1942, in Whitehall to Francis and Eleanore L. (Hanson) Bergerson. He was raised in Augusta and Hixton and graduated from the Hixton High School.

He married Donna Zillmer Abbott July 1, 1972. The couple later divorced.

For 42 years, he was employed at Northern Engraving in Sparta. He retired in 2005. Since 2005, Richard has made his home with Stanley and Lorene Zillmer in Cataract.

He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, playing softball and playing pool.

Surviving are his stepfather Ossie Kleven, Black River Falls; five stepsons, Gregg Abbott, Oshkosh, Kenneth Abbott, California, Brian Abbott, Sparta, Mark Abbott, Delavan, and Kevin Abbott, Nekoosa; a stepdaughter, Laurie Staflon, West Salem; a niece, Cameo Hanson, Black River Falls; four aunts, Jean Brovold, Chippewa Falls, Harriet Nerby, Black River Falls, Donna Jennings, Eau Claire, and Nila Hanson, Sequim, WA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, Raymond, and his sister, Ione.

Funeral serviced for Richard D. “Bergie” Bergerson were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 24, 2009, at Torgerson’s Funeral Home (715-284-4321), Black River Falls. Pastor John Kaplinski officiated, and burial was in the Northfield Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Dale and Lee Bergerson, Robert Jennings, Vern Brown Jr. and Tom and Brian Zillmer.
