Berry, Charles Roy (11 April 1944 – 8 October 2009)

Charles Roy Berry, 65, passed away Oct. 8, 2009, at his home in rural Taylor after a three year battle with cancer with his family by his side.

Charlie was born April 11, 1944, in Black River Falls at the Krohn Clinic to Roy L. Berry and Edna L. (Sonnenberg) Berry.  He was raised in the Taylor area as the youngest of three children. After graduating from Taylor High School in 1962, he moved to the Beloit area and worked at Warner Break and Clutch Co. for two years.  He then moved back to the Taylor area working numerous jobs such as silo building, logging and working at the P-nut Gallery.  He served the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department for 23 years, starting in 1977 and retiring in 2000.

Charlie enjoyed many hobbies, which included pitching horseshoes, cutting firewood, pool league, ABATE/motor cycle riding, helping the Amish community, painting/making wooden birds, cemetery custodian work, police dog training, hunting, fishing, gardening, restoration of antique cars and, of course, he was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.

Charlie married Delores Gusk, and they were later divorced.

Charlie Berry and Tammy Rupnick were married Jan. 29, 2000, in Black River Falls, which unified their families of two girls and four boys.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Tammy Berry; daughters, Lisa Melby and Kassie Fullington; sons, James (Ellen) and Kevin Berry and Kyle and Karl Fullington; grandchildren, Jessica Lakowske, Mackenzie and Brock Daley, Jonathan Melby, Gavin Berry, Damien, Alexander and Kyra Fullington; great-grandchild, Calvin Lakowske; sister Beulah Severson; along with numerous other friends and family members.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna (Sonnenberg) Berry; father, Roy Berry; and a sister, Alice Hagen, (recently on Sept. 28, 2009).

Charlie will be dearly missed by many, many friends and family members.  Charlie was well-known for his enormous heart and generous soul.  He was an extremely kind and patient individual.

Services for Charlie were held Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Zwickey Funeral Home in Melrose.  His final resting place is at Brookside Cemetery on Trump Coulee Road in Blair.
