Keshick, Morris S (30 June 1947 – 14 October 2009)

Morris S. Keshick, 62, of Black River Falls passed away Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at Pine View Care Center, while under the care of Black River Hospice.

 

He was born June 30, 1947, to Norman and Alice (Twinn) Winneshiek in Wisconsin Rapids.

 

Morris grew up in Wisconsin Rapids.  At age 10, he moved to California, where he graduated from Venice High School, Venice, CA.

 

While living in California, in addition to other various jobs, Morris worked as a shuttle bus driver for the Indian Center in Los Angeles.

 

In 2006, Morris moved back to Wisconsin, where he lived in Black River Falls.

 

Morris enjoyed singing and dancing at Pow-wows, playing and making flutes, doing bead work, going to the casino and playing bingo.  He was a very talented silversmith.  Morris also worked on automobiles doing auto body repairs.

 

Morris is survived by six sisters, Mary Ruth “Morningstar” Meyers of Ocean View, HI, Sadie (Larry) Garvin of Black River Falls, Paula (Herb) Cleveland of Black River Falls, Eunice (Ron) Mallory of Black River Falls, Rachel Winneshiek of Tomah and Annie Winneshiek of Black River Falls; two brothers, Clayton Winneshiek of Black River Falls and David Twinn of Lancaster, CA; Indian brother Chuck Smith of Vesper; aunt, Annabelle Winneshiek-Lowe of Hatfield; and numerous others: nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Alice; sister, Karen Keshick; and uncle, Raymond Twinn.

 

Traditional Native American services were held Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at noon at the Ho-Chunk District One Community Center, Black River Falls.  Dennis Funmaker presided over services.  Burial was in Decorah Cemetery, Black River Falls.  Family and friends were invited for visitation Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, from 10 a.m. until the time of the services at the Ho-Chunk District One Community Center.

 

Buswell Funeral Home of Black River Falls assisted the family with arrangements.
