Casper, LaVergne F.  (10 October 1912 – 11 November 2009)

 

LaVergne F. Casper, 97, of Hixton died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009 at Family Heritage Care Center under the care of Black River Hospice of Black River Falls.

 

LaVergne was born Oct. 10, 1912, to George and Minnie (Kluth) Gonia in the Oak Ridge area of Jackson County.  She was raised and lived in Jackson County for most of her life.  She graduated from Black River Falls High School in 1931.

 

She married Leonard Casper June 20, 1934, in the “Little Glass Church” near Sparta.  She and Leonard celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June of 1984, at the Lakeshore Pavilion in Hixton, the same place where their wedding dance was held.  They lived their entire married life on the Casper farm in Shady Glen where Leonard was born in 1907.

 

In 1968, LaVergne began working as a nursing assistant at the Family Heritage Care Center, retiring in 1980.  Leonard passed away March 6, 1993, and in June of that year, LaVergne moved to an apartment in Hixton.  She resided at Family Heritage since (the date was missing here).

 

LaVergne was a member of the Hixton United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Shady Glen Sewing Club, Hixton Senior Citizens, the Friendship Bible Coffee and she also served on the Black River Falls Christian Women’s Association Board for several years.

 

LaVergne is survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, and by brothers, Francis and Forrest Gonia, as well as by nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Funeral services for LaVergne F. Casper were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at the United Methodist Church in Hixton with Reverend Meg Erickson officiating.  Burial took place in Trinity Rest Cemetery, Hixton.  Friends called at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and also one hour prior to services at the church.

 

Casketbearers were: Mike Helstad, Nick Helstad, Jerry Jarrett, Greg Krueger, Ron Larson and Randall Warrichaiet.  Honorary bearers were: Duane Jarrett, Jim Nordahl and Al Walsted.
