Roseth, Laverne E. (4 March 1935 – 3 January 2010)

Laverne E. Roseth, 74, of Taylor died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at the Pine View Care Center, Black River Falls.

Laverne was born March 4, 1935, in Blair to parents Lloyd and Esther (Larson) Roseth.  He married Dennice Brynildson June 19, 1954, at Upper Beaver Creek Lutheran Church, rural Taylor.

Laverne was a hard worker all his life.  He cut ties and farmed for some years and drove truck for Wolf Construction Company in Dousman.  He also worked for Boatwright and Smith Blacktop in Gillette, WY, for several years.

After moving back to Wisconsin, he continued cutting firewood.  He loved being in the woods and using his chainsaw.  When health problems forced him to slow down in later years, the chainsaw was replaced by a deck of cards.  He got his bartending license to provide him with a reason to be at the Taylor Inn to play cards with his friends.  He also enjoyed gardening, fishing and watching old Westerns on TV.

He and Dennice raised five children to be hard workers and understand the meaning of the phrase “labor of love.”

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dennice; two sons, Steven (Debbie) Roseth of Taylor and Monte (Lori) Roseth of Black River Falls; three daughters, Luanne (Mark) Janzen of Taylor, Terry (Allen) Lien of Blair and Nancy (Mike Benz) Roseth of Green Lake; one brother, David Roseth of Chetek; one brother-in-law, John (Claire) Brynildson of Roseville, MN; three sisters-in-law, Arlene Brynildson of Centerville, SD, Rosalie (Elwin) Walsted of Hixton and Diane (Rob) Skoug of Platteville; 11 grandchildren, Kim, Sadie, Andrew, Rochelle, Joey, Jeremy, Becca, Josh, Kyle, Erin and Cory; 12 great-grandchildren; besides many other relatives and friends.

Laverne was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law, Hensel and Evelyn Brynildson; his sister-in-law, Marie Roseth; and his brother-in-law Hensel Brynildson, Jr.

Funeral services for Laverne E. Roseth will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at Upper Beaver Creek Lutheran Church, rural Taylor, with Reverend Benjamin Ahles-Iverson officiating.  Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services.  Burial will take place at a later date in the church cemetery.

The Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton, is assisting the family with arrangements.
