Young, Glen Harold (13 October 1921 – 13 October 2008)

Glen H. Young, 87, of rural Black River Falls (Town of Manchester), died Monday, October 13, 2008, at his home with his devoted family at his side and under the care of Black River Hospice.

Glen Harold Young was born October 13, 1921, in the Pine Hill area of Jackson County to Otto J. and Blanche B. (Johnson) Young. He was raised in Pine Hill and resided there for most of his life, other than a few retirement years, 1989 – 2004, which were spent in Holcombe. In 2004, he moved back to the land he was devoted to and spent his last years in the great area of Pine Hill.

He married Mildred Abbott in 1942. They had four children and spent many years together raising their family and helping so many along the way. Glen farmed in the Pine Hill area for many years. He also was employed as a carpenter by McGillivray Lumber of Black River Falls.

He was devoted to many things. He was a man of many passions. He loved his family, the land and making things right. He farmed for many years on family land, which was passed down from his father and grandfather. He was also a game warden and a member of the Conservation Congress. He spent many years as the town chairman of the Town of Manchester and served as president of the Jackson County Farm Bureau and later as a director of the Lake Holcombe Improvement Association. He received many awards for these achievements. Some of his greatest awards, however, were his family.

Glen enjoyed his family, fishing, hunting, politics and watching football and boxing.

Survivors include his children, Monty (Catherine) Young of Las Vegas, NV, and Patricia (Freddie Jotham) Guy and Roger (Penny) Young, both of the Pine Hill area near Black River Falls; eight grandchildren, Lisa Harth, Teresa (Neil) Cain, Josh Young, Jessie (David Finke) Guy, Caleb (Jessica) Young, Andrew (Jackie) Young, Glenna Young and Aaron (Sarah) Young; five great-grandchildren, Bradley (Leanne Berg) Cain, Amanda (Scott DeVries) Cain, John Cain, Kayden Young and Shauna Young; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Owen (Donna) Young of Chetek; two sisters, Dorothy Ott and Delores (Paul) Zahn, both of Black River Falls; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; a son, Gary, a granddaughter, Kim, and a special friend, Margaret Mickelson.

Family and friends were invited for visitation from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, October 17, 2008, at the Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls.

There were no funeral services. Family burial services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2008, in the Shamrock Union Cemetery, rural Black River Falls.

Memorials may be given to Black River Hospice, 711 W. Adams St., Black River Falls, WI 54615.
