Hagie, Amelia (2 April 1898 - 12 September 1968)

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the United Church of Christ in Neillsville for Mrs. Amelia Hagie, 70, Neillsville, who died here last Thursday. The Rev. W. C. Koehler officiated. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Hagie, the former Amelia Cardarella, was born April 2, 1898 in Clark County. She attended schools in Clark County, later going to King, where she was employed at the Veterans Administration Home for several years. She married Ed Hagie, who died in 1958. They moved to South Dakota, where they were engaged in farming. They later returned to the Neillsville area, locating in Shortville, where Mr. Hagie operated a blacksmith shop for many years. They moved into Neillsville in 1951.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ, American Legion Auxiliary of Haugen-Richmond Post No. 73, Diamond Rebekah Lodge, No. 64, and Wilson-Heintz Post, No. 2241, of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mrs. Hagie is survived by three children: Douglas of Atlanta, Ga.; John ‘Jack’ of Marshfield; and Mrs. Thomas (Mary Lou) Meredith of Neillsville. Other survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Anna Anthony of Madison and Mrs. Zanza Cook of Madison; three brothers, Joe Cardarella of Neillsville, Louie Cardarella of West Bend and Anthony Cardarella of Richmond, Cal.; and by five grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Rollie Benedict, Robert Frantz, Alvin Meihack, Irving Stevens, Ralph Short and Alphonse Linster. Two hymns, “Softly and Tenderly” and “My Faith Looks Up to Thee” were sung by Mrs. Robert D. Peters accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott.

People from out-of-town here for the service included: Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Hagie of Atlanta, Ga.; Mr. and Mrs. John Hagie and Brian of Marshfield; Mrs. Anna Anthony, Mrs. Harry Anthony and Mrs. Zanza Cook of Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Cardarella of West Bend; Mrs. Alois Weisner, Daniel, Joanne and Kathy of Brownsville; Mrs. Gene Hustad of Hudson; Mrs. Ervin Denkmann of Junction City; Ruth Anderson and Genevieve Cardarella of Minneapolis, Minn.; Rose and Ruth Meredith and John Mortel of Greenwood.

The V. F. W., the American Legion Auxiliary and the Rebekah Lodge attended the funeral in a body.
