Schmidt, Lucille I. (31 August 1917 - 11 March 2013)

Lucille I. Schmidt, 95, of Neillsville, formerly of Fremont, passed away Monday, March 11, 2013, at Neillsville Care and Rehab Center.

She was born Aug. 31, 1917, in the town of Clayton, WI, the daughter of the late John and Anna (Leubke) Bondow. Lucille married Walter “Buckle” Schmidt May 20, 1939. Together they owned and operated a cheese factory in Granton for 30 years. In 1984, they moved to Fremont, and June 8, 1999, Walter preceded her in death. Lucille moved to New London later in 1999. In 2006, she move to Neillsville to be close to her family, and in June 2012 she became a resident of Neillsville Care and Rehab Center. While living in Fremont, Lucille was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fremont, and after moving out of the area, she retained that membership.

Lucille is survived by two sons, Robert (Ruth) Schmidt, Neillsville, and William Schmidt, Lakeside, CA; two daughters, Joyce Schmidt, Phoenix, AZ and Judy (Tom) Thur, Fairchild; three sisters-in-law, Bernice Bondow, Menasha, Elva Warnke, Fremont, and Mary Schmidt, Readfield; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tammy Backus; two brothers, Wilbert and Earl; three sisters, Erna Strey, Pearl Kruger and Marie Schmidt.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fremont, with visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Pastor Stephen Pope officiated. Burial was in Wolf River Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
