Pernsteiner, Lawrence P. (26 FEB 1926 - 1 MAR 2013)

Lawrence P. Pernsteiner, 87, Medford, died on Friday, March 1, while under hospice care, at Deerview Meadows Assisted Living in Medford, where he had resided the past two weeks.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 4 at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Dennis Meulemans officiating, and military rites performed by the Medford Area Military Honors Team.

Interment will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery in Medford. Pallbearers are Andy Hruby, Kevin Ristow, Shawn Zimmerlee, Adam Tomasko, Joel Rech, Thomas Halada and Leif Tolokken.

Hemer Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.

Lawrence Pernsteiner was born on February 26, 1926 in the Town of Little Black to the late Casper and Alice (Annen) Pernsteiner. He attended Little Black State Graded School and was a 1944 graduate of Medford High School. He served in the United States Army Signal Corps from 1944 to 1946 in Vienna, Austria.

On August 13, 1949 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville, he married Agnes "Aggie" Cypher, who survives. He worked at Hurd Millwork in Medford for 26 years, then managed Peoples Choice Credit Union until retirement in 1991.

He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford Council of the Knights of Columbus and Klossner-Dietzler VFW Club of Medford. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Sandra Halada of Ladysmith, Mary (Rick) Smith of Tomah and Nancy (Al) Higgins of Medford; five siblings, Ralph (Darla) of Spencer, Gerald (Lynette) and Alice A. Pernsteiner, both of Medford, Kathleen (Frank) Luterbach of Franklin and Robert (Jill) of Hilton Head Island, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Kathy Pernsteiner of Medford; eight grandchildren, Carrie (Andy) Hruby, Katie (Leif) Tolokken, Thomas (Amber) Halada, Becky (Joel) Rech, Travis (Sarah) Smith, Heather (Kevin) Higgins, Megan (Shawn) Higgins and Jessie (Adam) Tomasko; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Norbert, in 1966, a son-in-law, Mark Halada in 2003, and two brothers, Sylvester and Willard.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be given to Hope Hospice or Holy Rosary Church and School.
