Smoczyk, Colleen Rita (Marriage - 28 MAY 1949)

On Saturday, May 28, 1949, at St. Mary’s Church in Stanley, to the strains of the traditional wedding march, Miss Colleen Rita Smoczyk, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Smoczyk of Stanley, approached the altar with her father, when she was united in marriage to Mr. James Eugene Ruby, son of Mrs. Loretta Ruby of Denver, Colo. Rev. Seemann performed the double ring ceremony at a 10 o’clock nuptial mass.

The bride was attired in a hoop-skirted white satin gown with a long train, a yoke trimmed with sequins and seed pearls and long fitted sleeves pointed at the wrist. Her fingertip veil edged in lace fell in becoming folds from a tiara of orange blossoms. She carried a colonial bouquet of white roses and lilies of the valley.

The attendants were Miss Lavonne Lahr of Stanley, maid of honor and the following bridesmaids: Miss Patricia Harrison of Denver, Colo., a niece of the groom; Miss Mary Ann Tanner, also of Denver, a cousin of the bride, and Miss Laurie Staron, another cousin of the bride, of Chicago. They wore frosted marquisette gowns of blue, yellow, lime and pink respectively, styled with a full skirt and a large ruffle outline the yoke. A crown of white roses adorned their hair. Each carried a colonial bouquet of yellow and pink carnations, lilies of the valley and sweet peas tied with matching streamers. The bride presented each girl with a strand of rainbow colored beads.

James Smoczyk, brother of the bride, acted as best man. Also attending were Edward Staron and Irvine Ciolkosz of Chicago, cousins of the bride. They and the groom wore dark blue suits with carnations in their lapels. The attendants were gifted with a combination pencil and tie pin by the groom.

The bride’s mother wore a blue Jersey dress and the groom’s mother chose a blue two-piece dress. They both had a corsage of pink and white carnations and sweet peas.

The dinner and supper were served at the Stanley Auditorium to about 150 guests. In the evening a wedding dance was held with the Nightingales furnishing the music.

The bride is a graduate of the Stanley High School. Previous to her marriage she was employed in Chicago and Denver. The groom has graduated from a Denver high school and is employed by the Denver City Fire Department. After a honeymoon, which at present is unknown, the young couple expect to make their home in Denver. Their friends and relatives join in wishing them a life of wedded bliss.

Out of town guests were: Mrs. Loretta Ruby, Miss Patricia Harrison, Miss Mary Ann Tanner and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fisher of Denver; Celestine Colgan of Alma, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. Pete Walenta and son Gregory, Mr. and Mrs. Al Hewins and son Johnnie and Mrs. Ed O’Hara of Milwaukee. Also Mr. and Mrs. Henry Nyckel and children Frank and Emily Michalak, John Staron and son Dennis, Irvine Ciolkosz, Fred, Edward, Frances, Laurie Staron, of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Dietz of Milwaukee.
