The communities of Withee and Owen were saddened by the passing on Saturday, July 2, 1977, at 9:30 p.m. of Mrs. John (Laura Anna) Blunck, age 80, at the Continental Manor in Abbotsford, after a long illness.

Mrs. Blunck was born on May 15, 1897 in the Town of Colby in Clark County, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mike (Anna) Miller. She moved with her family to Owen in 1905 and on May 10, 1921 married John Blunck.

For many years the Blunck’s owned and operated a general store, ow “Come ‘n See” Shop next to the Withee School, which was then the Withee Public School. She will be remembered by many Junior High Students, who would stop by each day and shop for their snacks of ice cream and candy. Mrs. Blunck was a person who lived children and was loved by them in return.

She and her husband operated the store until their retirement in 1958, at which time she became the Withee correspondent for the Owen Enterprise, a position she filled until several years ago.

Mrs. Blunck is survived by one son, John L. Blunck, who made his residence with his parents these years, and one daughter, Mrs. John (Viola) Jalling, also of Withee. Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. Rose Leland of Eau Claire. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Jack Jalling of Owen, and Mrs. David (Linda) Renderman of Withee, and five great-grandchildren, Scott and Ricky Jalling, and Michael, Mark and Danny Renderman.

She was preceded in death by one brother and her husband, John, who passed away on March 15, 1977.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 6, 1977, at 1:30 p.m., at the Kraut-Maurina Funeral Home in Owen, with the Rv. Lloyd Yaggie officiating. Burial services followed at the Riverside Cemetery near Withee.
