Mellenthin, Mary (31 Oct. 1895 - 20 Dec. 1998)

Mary Mellenthin, 103, of 814 W. 14th St., died at 10 a.m. Dec. 20, 1998, at the Marshfield Center.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. Robert Brandt will officiate. Music will be provided by Jolene Albert, organist for Gary Mauritz, soloist. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Pete Korpowski, Paul Jantz, Ken Wry, Jerry Pankratz, Lawrence Hoffman and Elmer Itzen.

Hansen Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.

Mary was born Oct. 31, 1895, at Brice, Ill., the daughter of George and Sophia (nee Lauderbach) Itzen. She received her education in the Brice, Ill. schools. She enjoyed baking for her family over the years and in her younger years she was a pastry baker for the Hotel Charles in Marshfield.

She was married to Otto Mellenthin on Nov. 19, 1919, in Spencer. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1969.

Mary and her husband operated the Mann Cheese Factory at Mannville, retiring in 1953.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

She is survived by a son, Arnold (Lucille) Mellenthin of Marshfield and a daughter-in-law, Betty Wills of Marshfield; five grandchildren, Jean (Paul) Jantz, Susan (Pete) Karpowski, David (Joanna) Mellenthin, Patricia (Dean) Blum and Shirley Fischer; and six great-grandchildren. She is further survived by a sister, Martha Wills, and by a brother, Fred Itzen, both of Marshfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband Otto in 1982; one son, Kenneth Wills; a grandson, Douglas Wills; three brothers, Fred Itzen, Ed Itzen and George Itzen; and a sister, Lizzy Itzen.

Memorials may be designated to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
