Schwantes, Eleanore R. (7 Sept. 1910 - 31 Oct. 1998)

Eleanore R. Schwantes, 88, formerly of Edgar, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998, at Comfort Care and Hospice Services, at Community Health Care Wausau Hospital.

She was born Sept. 7, 1910 in Two Creeks, Wis., to Peter and Cecelia (Plansky) Mathiesen. She married Lother Schwantes on Dec. 30, 1933, in Edgar. He preceded her in death on Oct. 17, 1987.

Eleanore was employed at St. Mary's Hospital and then at the Neo-Natal Center at St. Josephs Hospital for many years.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary C. Schafer, Minneapolis, Minn.; a son, Alan Schwantes, Wausau; two sisters, Gladys Gering, Wausau and Patricia Mathiesen, Hopkins, Minn.; and three grandchildren, Mary Pat (Doug) Ochis, Egan, Minn.,Steven Schafer, Minneapolis, Minn., and Jon Peter Schafer, Tampa, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lother Schwantes; her parents; and a brother, Arthur Mathiesen.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, at St. John's Catholic Church, Edgar, Rev. Bernard Raschke will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Edgar. Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar assisted the family with arrangements.
