Kallien, Fred (11 Apr. 1872 – 29 Nov. 1943)

Fred Kallien, a pioneer farmer of the town of Johnson, died Monday morning in Milwaukee. Funeral services were held there today.

Mr. and Mrs. William Brunner and daughter, Delores and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Kallien went down Wednesday morning for the funeral.

Funeral services for Fred Kallien, 71, who died on Nov. 29, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Albert Klapp, in Milwaukee, were held there, last Thursday. Services were conducted in the Apostolic church and internment was made in Valhalla cemetery.

Fred Kallien was born April 11, 1872 in Germany. At the age of 21 he came to America and lived at Sheboygan. He was married there on Oct. 12, 1893. For many years he worked in a tannery there. Later the family moved to a farm near Plymouth where they lived for four years.

Following that they came to the town of Johnson and lived there for 28 years. Thirteen years ago, Mr. Kallien retired from farming and Mr. and Mrs. Kallien went to Milwaukee to make their home. Two years ago, Mrs. Kallien died there.

Surviving are three daughters: Mrs. William (Meta) Brunner, Abbotsford and Mrs. Albert (Elsie) Klapp, Milwaukee; Mrs. Otto (Sarah) Boss, Rhinelander; one son, Arnold, Milan. There are nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Mrs. William Krause, Colby; and Mrs. Ed Bell of Milwaukee, also survive.
