Jaeckel, Esther Katherine (Spindler) (April 2, 1919 - June 30, 2011)

Esther Katherine Jaeckel was born on April 2, 1919, and died May 30, 2011, at 10:15 p.m. at the age of 92 in Hospice Care at Marywood Center, Wausau.

She was the daughter of Louis J. and Anna (Weisman) Spindler, Town of Cleveland, Marathon County.

She married Leonard G. Jaeckel on June 28, 1941. They farmed together on Leonard’s home farm in the Town of Day until their retirement on October 30, 1980.

They enjoyed camping, card playing, and water exercise, and made many special friends through these activities. Esther was well known for her excellent cooking and baking skills. She always had something ready for when the “kids” came home. Her truest enjoyment was her family. She was happiest when surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Being a part of their lives were her happiest moments and with the patience of Job, she would take even the smallest in hand, finding them something to do to help with whatever was being worked on.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; a grandson, William Veitch; her parents; two sisters, Alma Schoesser and Loretta Dhein; and two sisters-in-law, Eleanor (Jaeckel) Spindler and Elizabeth (Jaeckel) Scheffler.

She is survived by her children, Lee Ann (Jack) Thomsen, Marathon, Richard (Dorothy) Jaeckel, Roscoe, Ill., and John (Deanna) Jaeckel, Hayward; eight grandchildren, Lanny Harder, Colfax, Lorrie (Brian) Rindfleisch, Mosinee, Lindy (Frank) Nieves, Kenosha, Brent (Kim) Harder, St. Paul, Minn., Edgar (Tami) Veitch, Roscoe, Ill., Todd (Christy) Jaeckel, Brooksville, Fla., Melissa Jaeckel, Roscoe, Ill., and Sara Jaeckel, Hayward; 11 great-grandchildren, Caleb and Chelsea Rindfleisch, Cole Harder, Nadeen Nieves, Hilary Haugeberg, Max and Katie Harder, Nichole and Brittani Veitch, Ayrian and Abigale Jaeckel; as well as many nieces, nephews, and special friend Viola Untiet.

Services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 3, at Ebenezer United Church of Christ, Stratford. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service at the church. Pastor Beverly Davis will officiate and Judy Polege will provide music. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Sauter-Rembs of Stratford is assisting the family with the arrangements.

In honor of Esther’s love of baking and desserts, a Pie and Ice Cream Social will immediately follow the services. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be designated to Ebenezer UCC, Aspirus Hospice Care, or Alyson House Resident Activity Fund.

The family would like to thank Dr. Kevin O’Connel, Marywood Nurses and Staff, and Aspirus Hospice services for their care and compassion.
