George Rhyner (6 Aug 1888 – 21 Aug 1959)

Funeral services for George Rhyner, 71, were held Monday, Aug. 24 at 9:30 from St. Theresa’s Catholic church in Schofield with burial in the Schofield cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were seven nephews and one grandson, Gilbert Fritsche, Herman Sebold, Arnold Rhyner, Ray Rhyner, Allen Rhyner, Melvin Gallistel, Danny Gallistel and Ronald Allar.

Mr. Rhyner died Friday at his home after a lingering illness.

Most of the deceased's relatives from this community attended the funeral rites, including members of the Rhyner, Gebert, and Fritsche families, together with others.

George Rhyner was born Aug. 6, 1888, in Oshkosh, Wis. and came to this community (town of Little Black, Taylor Co., WI) in 1903. He and Margaret Hamm were married in Sacred Heart Catholic church, Stetsonville, in 1916. He owned Four Corner Cheese Factory and later farmed 2 miles south and 4 ½ miles west of Stetsonville. They left here 32 years ago, buying a cheese factory and store between Mosinee and Wausau and operated it until 2 years ago when their son took over the cheese factory so they could devote full time to the store.

He is survived by his wife, 4 daughters, 2 sons and one grandson whom they raised from infancy, 30 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, 4 brothers and 2 sisters, Harry, Stetsonville, Clarence, Chippewa Falls, Gilbert and Norman, Westboro, Mrs. Henry Gebert, Dorchester, and Mrs. Rudy Gallistel, Ogema.

One sister, Mrs. Henry Fritsche, preceded him in death.
