Mattila, Victor (1881 - 26 Jul 1964)


Victor Mattila, a resident of the Owen community for the past 49 years, died at his home here Sunday, July 26th. He was 83 years of age.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon, July 28, from Bethany Lutheran church with the parish Pastor, Rev. Lauri Isaacson officiating. Burial was made at Riverside Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Sol Laakso, Hjlmer Heikkinen, Arne Laakso, Frank Loma, Kauno Niemi and Matt Hautamaki.

Mr. Mattila was born in Finland, where his marriage to Selma Melendin took place in 1907. In 1909, they came to the United States and settled in Michigan. In 1915, they came to the Owen-Withee area and farmed here for 20 years. After retiring, the couple lived at Abbotsford for one year, and then returned to Owen.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Mattila is survived by a son, Toivo, Waukegan, Ill.: six daughters, Mrs. Sylvia Marr, Cincinnati, Ohio; Mrs. Wilson, Abbotsford; Mrs. Elsia Schultz, Curtiss; Mrs. Vieno MacGuire, Burbank, Calif; Mrs. Irga Blodgett, Sommerville, N.J.; and Mrs. Ina Garces, Milwaukee; 18 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and two brothers, Anchi Kallio and Matt Kallio, Waukegan, Ill.
