Mrs. Augusta Karau Passes Away

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Marshfield, for Mrs. Augusta Karau, 81, who passed away of a heart ailment at 12:05 p.m. in St. Joseph’s hospital where she had been a patient since March 28. Rev. G. M. Krueger officiated at the services and burial was in Hillside cemetery.

Mrs. Karau was born in Germany January 7, 1868, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl Behnke. When she was six years old her family moved to this country and settled in Reedsville where she resided until one year after her marriage on September 17, 1886 to Gustave Karau. They moved to Marshfield where they lived for seven years.

They then moved to a farm in the Town of Spencer where Mrs. Karau lived until 1923. For the last 26 years she had lived in Marshfield. Mr. Karau preceded her in death June 19, 1908.

Surviving are four sons, and four daughters, Gustave A. Karau, West Allis; Emil Karau, Spencer; Eldor Karau, Milwaukee; Reinhold Karau, Marshfield; Mrs. Louis (Ida) Krueger, Collins; Mrs. August (Elsie) Kibbel, Spencer; Mrs. Emma Pagel, Wonewoc; and Mrs. Oscar (Adela) Kibbel, Marshfield. She is also survived by two brothers, Rudolph and Adolph Behnke, Spencer and a sister, Mrs. Anna Bessert, Reedsville. There are 24 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The body lay in state at the Hansen Funeral Home, Marshfield, until Tuesday noon when it was taken to the church.
