Jacobi, Henry (8 DEC 1856 - 21 JAN 1935)

Word is Received Here of Death of Late Henry Jacobi

Word has been received here of the recent death of Henry Jacobi of Abbotsford, native of Sheboygan County. Mr. Jacobi’s death occurred at his home in Abbotsford Monday Jan 21 after an illness of two months duration. He was 78 years of age.

Mr. Jacobi was born in the town of Wilson, Sheboygan county, Dec. 8, 1856 and when he was a very small child, his parents moved to Centerville where he spent his boyhood days.

In 1880, he was united in marriage with Miss Augusta Schmitz of Newton and the couple moved to the town of Holton, Marathon county, where they were pioneer settlers. Through continual hard labor, Mr. Jacobi converted part of the wild woods into a fine, well-improved farm. There were no roads, only trails leading through the woods from the homes of these pioneers to the villages and Mr. Jacobi was among the early settlers who found it necessary to carry their flour and other food supplies all the way from Abbotsford, and in the first years, even from Colby, to their homes.

For many years, Mr. Jacobi kept an interesting record of rain-fall in the vicinity of Abbotsford.

From 1880 until 1912, the Jacobi family lived on a farm. Six children were born to the couple, two of whom preceded their father in death.

From 1912 to 1919, the family lived in Colby and since1919, they lived at Abbotsford.

Survivors include his wife, three sons, Henry, Edwin and Herbert, who live in the town of Holton, Clark county, a daughter, Mrs. Selma Bernetitte, Abbotsford, two brothers, Fred of Cleveland, Wis., and Herman in Idaho and two sisters, Mrs. Frank Lehmann in Sheboygan and Mrs. Robert Flemming in Humbolt, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church at Abbotsford of which Mr. Jacobi was an active and faithful member.
