Sowieja, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent (Golden - 10 February 1970)

Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Sowieja of Greenwood, who were married February 10, 1920, in Swanville, Minn., were honored at a Golden wedding celebration Saturday, February 14, at the Legion Hall. “Open House” was held from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. preceded by a noon meal. A dinner was served at 6 p.m. to 82 guests. During the dinner special music was furnished by Donna, Diane and Debbie Zepaltas, Charles Bayuk, Thomas Zepaltas and Bruce Felix.

Mrs. Sowieja, her daughters and daughters-in-law had corsages of yellow and gold flowers and peppermint pinks. Her husband, their sons and sons-in-law had white carnation boutonnieres. The couple received a television set from their children and a money tree from their grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Table decorations were a centerpiece of yellow and gold flowers. The heart-shaped wedding cake was made by Mrs. Edwin Degenhardt.

Mr. Sowieja was born to Mr. and Mrs. Nick Sowieja on July 18, 1892, in Poland and came to America with his parents at the age of six. He received his education in Swanville, Minn.

Mrs. Sowieja, the former Mary Zwilling, was born May 8, 1898, in Morris, Minn., to Mr. and Mrs. Matt Zwilling. She also received her education in Swanville, Minn.

After their marriage they farmed at Swanville until 1925 and for several years they remained there where he was employed in a garage. They lived in Little Falls and Duluth, Minn., Milwaukee and Atwood before coming to Greenwood in 1965.

They have six children, Jerome and Eugene of Greenwood, James of Owen, Ambrose of Milwaukee, Mrs. John (Mona) Pavlow and Mrs. Allen (Eleanor) Lindenberg, both of Milwaukee. There are 25 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. All were present for the celebration.

Other relatives and friends came from Minneapolis, Glenwood, Swanville, Buffalo and Farmington, Minn., McHenry and Fox Lake, Ill., Milwaukee and Owen.
