High School Notes (Jan 1916)
The winter term began Monday with a somewhat
reduced attendance because of the epidemic of colds and influenza.
The
flag now hangs over the school yard on a wire stretched between the two
buildings. No one has been secured to climb the flagpole and adjust the pulley
so the flag cannot be raised on the pole.
The slippery walks have
afforded much pleasure for the children, but much consternation for the
grown-ups.
The large bell now rings three times during the day, at 8:20,
at 8:40 and at 1:00. The outside gong, which is operated by the clock, takes the
place of the other bells.
Irene Sullivan, a Junior student from
Dorchester, has had to give up school on account of the death of her mother
which occurred during the vacation.
The father of Clara Wilke, a Senior,
passed away suddenly Monday evening.
Little Ruth Warren of the primary
room had her arm dislocated by a fall on the stairs Tuesday noon.
