Humbird (7 May 1970)

Mr. and Mrs. William Lintcher of Whitewater were in town Tuesday attending to business matters. They called at the Raymond Stuve home.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Miller of Waterloo, Ia., came last Friday to stay until Wednesday at the home of his sister, Mrs. Ted Polege. While here Mr. Miller joined Harland Meyers of Cedar Falls on a smelt fishing trip. Did they get fish? Buckets of them!

Walter Jenswold was called home from his work in Eau Claire last week by the illness of his mother. We are glad to report that she is better.

Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Carrol and children of Lombard, Ill., spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Aeschbacher.

Last weekend Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Ness and children of Rosemont, Minn., were weekend guests at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Terrell. Sunday Mr. and Mrs. George Wright and children of Tomah joined the family group for dinner and the afternoon.

Mrs. Alma Zimmerman, accompanied by Mmes. Rilla Walker, Maude Newton, Eva Laffe and Nina Stuve, drove to Neillsville Saturday and attended the Rebekah Lodge district convention.

Mrs. Edwin Zimmerman was taken to the Black River Falls hospital Saturday. Her daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Garman of Eau Claire, came Sunday and with Mr. Zimmerman visited her mother Sunday. They report that she is improving.

Mr. and Mrs. Thane Joos and Janice of Alma Center called Sunday at the Newton home.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Laffe were business callers in Eau Claire Monday.

Mrs. Elgie Hardwick spent a few days last week at the Raymond Tesmer home in Neillsville.

Mr and Mrs. Bob Fitzmaurice and family of Augusta spent Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Levi Fitzmaurice.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rink of Watertown spent Wednesday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Polege.

Mrs. Laura Dignin came home from Beloit Saturday morning. Her grandson, Cary Austin, brought her. Sunday Mrs. Dignin and Cary were guests at the Gil Bloom home in Price.

Mr and Mrs. Lyle Newell and Virgil spent the weekend in St. Paul visiting their daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Staves and family and Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Meyers.

A pre-nuptial shower was held Friday night in St. John’s Church of Christ in honor of Miss Betty Scholtze, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Scholtze. Hostesses were Mrs. Ruth Giloy, Mrs. Janet Scholtze and Mrs. Emma Gerber. A lunch was served.

Ed Mashin has taken the job of school custodian, filling out the term of school caused by a vacancy.

Mrs. Dick Walker has been appointed town assessor to take the place of Ellis Williams, who resigned.

Mr and Mrs. Levi Fitzmaurice and Mr. and Mrs. Jake Lightfoot were Neillsville visitors Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Louis Greub and baby of River Falls were weekend visitors at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Greub.

With Mrs. Beverly Lightfoot as the driver, Mmes. Betty Zerbel, Alyce Gearing, Sue Theiler, Audrey Johnson and Mrs. Harold Schmidt drove to Minneapolis Wednesday to spend the day.

Mr and Mrs. Hugh Terrell spent Sunday at the home of their daughter, Mrs. George Wright and family, in Tomah. Lori Wright came home with them to stay for a week.

Mrs. Percy Bemis, Mrs. Albert Zimmerman and Lottie Flynn and daughter, Jean Collins, were in Marshfield Wednesdays. They called on Mrs. Edna Spuhler.

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Michels of Milwaukee spent the weekend with relatives in Humbird and in rural Alma Center.

Mrs. Johanna Olson, Mrs. Beatrice Lang, Mrs. Alice Gearing and Mrs. Keith Johnson, Clay and Jill, called Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Edith Smith to help her celebrate her birthday. They brought well-filled baskets of food and gifts and enjoyed playing the old fashioned game of dominoes.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Albrecht of Neillsville called Sunday afternoon on Mrs. Jean Collins and also attended the Golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. John Greub.

Mr. and Mrs. Gib Gile and Bob of Merrillan, Mrs. Schmick of Alma Center and Mrs. Beatrice Stuve were dinner guests Sunday at the Glen Stuve home in honor of Mr. Stuve’s birthday.

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Seelow and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Seelow, Eugene and fiancée, all of Milwaukee, and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Prock of Neillsville visited Sunday at the home of Mrs. Christine Hansen.

Visitors last weekend at the Archie Kirby home last week were Mr. and Mrs. Everett Senske and family of St. Paul.
