Herman Decker, 80, pioneer Ladysmith resident, died at St. Mary’s Hospital Wednesday evening, his death following an illness of about 12 hours with a heart attack. He was stricken at his home about 8 o’clock in the morning while in his usual physical condition, and was preparing to go down town on an errand.
Deceased was born in Sheboygan County, April 4, 1868, and when a year old was taken by his parents to greenwood, where he grew to manhood. He came to Ladysmith in 1899 and made this his home the remainder of his life.
Shortly after locating here he erected the building on West Second Street now occupied by the Reidner grocery, and entered the saloon business. He continued this business for about 20 years, after which he worked in the woods as camp cook. He was forced to give up active work about five years ago on account of failing health. He held membership in the Modern Woodmen of America. His marriage to Miss Anna Newhouse took place in Ladysmith January 1, 1901.
