Williams, Joseph Williams Sr. (6
May 1935 - 2 December 2013)
Joseph W. Williams Sr., 78, of Walworth and
Humbird passed away Monday Dec. 2, 2013, at home after a brief illness. Joe was
also a longtime resident of Crystal Lake, IL.
Joe was born May 6, 1935,
to the late Lillian (nee Maurer) and John Williams in Chicago, IL. He was united
in marriage to Rosemary Allen, June 26, 1954.
Joe was an active member of
the Boy Scouts f America for over 30 years, receiving several awards from the
organization for his many years of service. He served as scoutmaster of Troop
190 in Burton’s Bridge, IL, for over 15 years. He was a member of the ROTC and a
volunteer on the Knollwood Volunteer Fire Dept.
Joe was most recently
president of the Big Foot Archers in Lake Geneva, and has been a member of the
club for over 20 years. An avid outdoorsman, Joe especially loved fishing,
hunting, camping, hiking and spending time at his cabin up north. He was a very
caring and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He
also enjoyed spending time watching his grandchildren grow. He was a great role
model and always willing to lend a helping hand.
Joe is survived by his
children, Joe (Skip) Mr. (Maria) of Black River Falls, Cathy Strobot of Cary,
IL, Betty Webb of Genoa City, Chris of Crystal Lake, IL, and Judy (Bill)
Milligan of Kenosha; grandchildren, Jamie, Jenny Tammy, Joey, Matthew, June,
Bryan and Brandon; as well as several great-grandchildren. He is also survived
by a brother Jack Roth of California.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; his wife, Rosemary in 2002 and a brother, Howard.
Funeral
services were held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at the Haase-Lockwood &
Associates Funeral home and Crematory, 113 Freeman St. Genoa City. Private
family inurnment was Saturday at St. John’s Cemetery in Fox River Grove, IL. The
Williams family received friends from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral
home.
