Hayden, Mrs. Bert ‘Jennie’ (90th Birthday - 23 January 1972)

“I’m still interested in all the good things of life,” summarized Mrs. Bert Hayden of Granton, who will observe her 90th birthday on Sunday, January 23.

The daughter of the late Mr. and Mr. Simon Winn, Jennie Hayden was born in the Town of York and lived there until 10 years ago. At that time, she moved to the village of Granton.

Mrs. Hayden is the mother of two children, Mrs. Fred (Glyde) Steinich of Germantown and Arleigh Graves of Granton. She also raised two of her sister’s children, Mrs. Bruce (Eileen Gardner) Lemonds of Stoughton and Everett Gardner of Mayville. There are three grandchildren, Mrs. Jerry (Dixie Graves) Kranz, Mrs. Otto (Ara Mae Graves) Hainz, Jr., and Darwin Graves, all of Neillsville; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, Scott Hawley of Merrillan.

Mr. Hayden died five years ago. Since then, Mrs. Hayden has been living alone except for the assistance of a good friend, Ruby Anthony, who spends the nights with her.

Mrs. Hayden has always been active in church, Sunday school and club work. She is a member of the Granton United Methodist Church.

Raising flowers has been a longtime hobby which has kept life interesting and busy for Mrs. Hayden, who gardens both inside and out. As her eyesight permits, she enjoys passing time in writing letters to her many friends and relatives in other areas.

Another of her interests is music, “I used to be able to play the piano,” Mrs. Hayden reminisced, “and I still love to play my mouth organ!”
