Bergman, Russell "Russ" C. (26 FEB 1940 - 25 FEB 2014)

Russell "Russ" C. Bergman, 73, Ogema, was pronounced dead on Saturday, Feb. 22 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 11 a.m. at Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church in Ogema, with Dale Kemp officiating.

Interment will be at Leavitt Creek Cemetery in the Town of Hill, Price County. Pallbearers are Gene Haskins, Dustin Freeman, Jim Tauschek, Clayton Lyons and Derek and Austin Bergman.

Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

Hemer Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.

Russell Bergman was born on February 26, 1940 in the Town of Hill to the late Albert Wilhelm and Haydee Marie (Newfors) Bergman. He attended Levitt Creek Elementary School in the Town of Hill, and was a 1958 graduate of Westboro High School. He served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965.

On October 9, 1965 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Chelsea, he married Gladys A. Nikkila, who survives. He worked at the Westboro Cheese Factory, Ogema Produce, then as a mechanic at Liske Marine in Medford for 32 years until his retirement.

He was a member of Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, camping, feeding the birds, sports, school athletic events, spending time with his grandchildren, and visiting with friends.

In addition to his wife, survivors include five children, Louise (Gary) Freeman, Barbra (Lars) Holm and Anita Lyons, all of Ogema, Randy (Shari) Bergman of Medford and Scott Bergman of Stevens Point; a sister, Edna Maatta of Ogema; two brothers, Robert "Bobby" Bergman of Ogema and Ralph (Joyce) Bergman of Grand Rapids, Minn.; a half-sister, Miriam "Micky" Bush of Ashland; 13 grandchildren, Dustin (Jenny) Freeman, Kristi Freeman, Nicole (Kyle) Kochan, Ashlee Holm, Derek Bergman, Austin Bergman, Abbie Bergman, Miriam Lyons, Clayton Lyons, Erin Bergman, Lydia Holm, Colby Bergman and Caitlin Holm; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas Lyons in 2002; a brother, Melvin Bergman; a sister, Verna Kyllonen; and eight half-brothers and half-sisters.
