Mrs. Charles Kuehl Sr., wife of the late Charles Kuehl, Sr., wife of prominent Withee businessman, and a resident of this community since 1904, died suddenly a week ago today when stricken with a heart attack.

Monday she told friends she was not feeling too well, but nevertheless was up and about daily, as she had been all day Thursday eating her meals as usual and visiting until late Thursday afternoon, when she was suddenly stricken with a heart attack while at the Woodland Hotel, where she had made her home for the past 18 months.

During her long life span of 84 years, 11 months and 19 days she had made immeasurable contributions to her community, church, family and many friends who were fortunate in sharing her companionship.

Born April 20, 1880, at Whitehall, Wis., she settled in Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) after her marriage on June 10, 1904 to the late Charles Kuehl, who operated a general store in that village during its early history. He retired from business in the 40’s and passed away in 1954.

A woman of strong convictions, she participated actively in civic affair in addition to being a member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church, it ladies aid, the Owen Chapter of Eastern Start Lodge, Rebecca Lodge of Withee, and the Royal Neighbors.

Funeral services were conducted at two o’clock Sunday afternoon from Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee. Rev. Beryl Knudsen, parish pastor, officiated, with burial being made at Riverside Cemetery..

Saturday night Eastern Star services were held at the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers were Emil H. Hansen, Emil V. Hansen, Karl Jensen, Lucius Bowen, Edgar Alberts and Chris Backe. Carrying the floral offerings were Natalie Scherf and Mrs. Mrs. Chris Backe.

She is survived by a son, Charles, of Madison.
