Kutsche, Mr. and Mrs. Ray (Golden - 11 October 1972)

Mr. and Mrs. Ray Kutsche of Neillsville will hold open house at St. John’s Lutheran school on Sunday, October 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. in observance of their golden wedding anniversary. The open house, which will be preceded by a family dinner, is being given by the Kutsche’s two daughters.

Ray Kutsche and the former Hattie Liskow were married October 11, 1922, by the Rev. Herman Brandt. Their attendants were Mrs. Martha (Filitz) Noltner, friend of the bride, and Otto Liskow, the bride’s brother. Mrs. Noltner presently resides in Madison. Mr. Liskow spends the summers’ months on Snyder’s Lake and the cold months in Bradenton, Fla.

Following their marriage, the couple farmed in the Town of Levis for 20 years. In 1943 Mr. Kutsche was elected sheriff of Clark County and served alternately as sheriff and undersheriff for 22 consecutive years. During those years, Mrs. Kutsche served as matron and prepared prisoners’ meals in addition to performing a variety of other tasks for which there were no special employees at that time. When Mr. Kutsche first became sheriff, the department included the sheriff, the undersheriff, and four patrolmen. Mr. and Mrs. Kutsche were honored for their years of service with a dinner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in 1967. Mr. Kutsche retired in 1965, but has been a familiar and reassuring figure at the corner of Fourth and Hewett streets for the last five years while on duty with the school safety patrol.

Ray Kutsche was born at Green Bay and came to the Town of Lynn with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kutsche, as a small child. He attended local rural and parochial schools. His hobbies nowadays are gardening, fishing and reading.

Mrs. Kutsche, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. August Liskow, was born at Watertown and came to the Town of Levis with her parents. Like her husband, with whom she shares a fondness for reading, she attended rural and parochial schools in the area. Besides housework, she is interested in fancy work, sewing and flowers.

The couple has two daughters, Mrs. Albert (Vada) Meske of Marshfield and Mrs. Ed (Ruth) Rychnovsky of Neillsville. There are four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Kutsche are members of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and she is a member of the Dorcas Society.

Relatives and friends from Watertown, New London, Manawa, Wittenberg, Boscobel, Thorp, Owen, and Colby and from Lebanon, Mo., are expected to attend the anniversary observance.
