Mrs. Ernest Capes, 73, of Marshfield, a former Unity resident, died Thursday at 9:20 p.m. in the Memorial hospital at Neillsville.

Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Hansen Chapel, with the Rev. Wesley Dafoe, pastor of the First Methodist church, officiating. Burial was in the Colby Memorial cemetery.

The former Helen Evelyn Tooley was born Sept. 26, 1892, at Middle Granville, N. Y., and received her education there and at Troy academy at Albany, N. Y. Her marriage to Ernest Capes took place Dec. 23, 1914, at Middle Granville, N. Y.

The couple made their home in Goodland, Ind., before moving to Withee in 1922, where they operated a grocery store for eight years. They moved to Unity where they resided until 1956 when they moved to Marshfield.

Mrs. Capes was a member of the Marshfield First Methodist church.

In addition to her husband, survivors are a son, Everett Capes, Marshfield, and a daughter, Mrs. Gordon (Betty) DuVall, eight grand children and two great grand children.

Pallbearers were Russell Andrews of Spencer, Otto Atcherson, Bernie Mabbott, Ray Binning, Roscoe Meacham and Ted Domer, Unity.

“The Old Rugged Cross” and “Be Still My Soul” were sung by Mrs. Dafoe and Mrs. Maurice Hoffas; accompanied at the organ by Mr. Maldon Plank.
