High School Notes (26 Oct 1916)
Oscar Gerhardt, a graduate in the 1916 class, has entered the Delta Iota
Fraternity at Lawrence College.
Harry Zimmerman is in the infirmary at the University of Wisconsin.
The musical program to be given Friday is as follows:
1. German song, German class
2. Piano solo, Florence Huckstead
3. School paper, Marie Bruley, Robert Quinnel
4. Vocal solo, Hazel Washburn
Miss Hammond’s class autoed to Miss Leason’s school in Shortville today, on
Tuesday.
Science Club: The schedule has been changed. Four boys instead of three are on
the program. Mr. Strong talked to them last Monday on some new plans.
Helene Marx went to Eau Claire for the weekend.
Edna Tragsdorf visited Miss Leason’s school Friday.
Miss Mackin went home to New Richmond over Sunday after attending the Eau Claire
convention.
The Teachers’ Training Course, taught by Miss Hammond, is one of the best
courses we open in our school. Many boys and girls have taken the course and
have made successful teachers. All have received schools and are proving
themselves capable of undertaking a great task and proving themselves worthy of
praise.
This year there are thirty in the Senior class and sixteen are taking the
Training Course. There are eleven Juniors taking the course.
The Athena Club is waiting copies of “The Trial of Hearts”, which will probably
be given as the Junior play. In the meantime they are continuing work on “The
Real Thing”, a comedy by John Kendrick Bangs.
The Senior Dramatic Club announced the arrival of “A Box of Monkeys.” It is
further stated, however, that it is not the forerunner of a zoo, as one might
suppose, but a funny play on which they are soon to begin work.
The Commercial Club is progressing as is seen by all. Secretary, Jay Harding.
The club meeting preceding the one which took place on October 8th was
called to order in the Commercial room October 22, 1916, all members being
present. The following program took place:
1. A talk on flax and its use, by Anna Hosely
2. A talk on salesmanship, by Naomi Richardson
3. A talk on salesmanship, by Alvina Hauge
4. An article on window trimming, Vivian Bartlett
The following program will take place at the next meeting:
A debate: Resolved that the condensary is more profitable for the farmers and
community than the cheese factories and creameries.
[Affirmative] and Emil Schroeder
Negative – Jay Harding and Theodore Tykac
