Sheffer, Dolores J. ‘Dolly’ (16 June 1926 - 11 July 2014)

Dolores J. ‘Dolly’ Sheffer, 88, of Humbird passed away Friday, July 11, 2014, in the Black River Memorial Hospital while under the care of Black River Memorial Hospice.

Dolly was born June 16, 1926, in La Crosse, to Clifford and Edna Thompson. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in La Crosse in 1940 and graduated from Logan High School in 1944. She married Walter ‘Bill’ Sheffer June 24, 1944. After his discharge from World War II, the couple moved to Humbird where they enjoyed 66 years of married life together until Bill passed away in September of 2010.

Dolly worked at the former “G’s” Café in Black River Falls, Castle Hill Supper Club in Merrillan and as a press operator at the Neillsville Filter Plant. She retired in 1988. After retiring, she enjoyed sewing, fishing, the Packers and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the Humbird American Legion Post 320 Auxiliary for 57 years.

She is survived by and will be missed by her son, Richard (Brenda) Sheffer, Humbird; two brothers, Sylan ‘Sy’ (Avis) Thompson, Idaho, and Jerry (Linda) Thompson, La Crosse; two nephews she and her husband raised as their own children, John and Buck Gust; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Bill, the love of her life, she was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Kenneth Sheffer; her grandson, Travis Sheffer; and her brother, Warren Thompson.

Funeral services for Dolores J. ‘Dolly’ Sheffer will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at the Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home (715-963-2311) Hixton. Services will be conducted by Rev. Terry Marg, and burial will be in the Angelo Cemetery, Sparta.

Relatives and friends called at Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home Tuesday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and may call Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
