Leja, Fred E. (1895? – 7 JUL 1967)

Fred E. Leja, 72, Stanley, died in Memorial Hospital at 5:25 a.m. Friday.

Mr. Leja was born in Mt. Pleasant, Pa., and came to the Stanley area with his parents in 1900. He worked in logging camps. In June 1923 he married Helen Kudingo at Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), and they moved to Chicago, where he was employed for eight years. He returned to the Stanley area, where he was employed until his retirement in 1960.

Surviving are on daughter, Mrs. Harold Derda, Niles, Ill., four brothers, Peter, Joseph, Frank and John, all of Stanley; six sisters, Mrs. Ed Pearson and Mrs. Edward Stafin, both of Niles, Ill., Mrs. Joseph Slowiak, Mrs. Mary Slowiak and Mrs. Stanley Bruzan, all of Stanley; and one grandson.

Mr. Leja was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, and the American Legion.

Funeral services were held Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Anne's Church with Father Edmund Cramer officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.
