Marschke, William "Bill" C. (17 APR 1936 - 20 OCT 2014)

William "Bill" C. Marschke, 78, Rib Lake, died at his home while surrounded by his family and under hospice care, on Monday, Oct. 20.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Rib Lake, with Rev. James Heffner officiating. Interment of his cremated remains will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Rib Lake, with graveside military rites performed by Rib Lake American Legion Post No. 274. Active urn bearer is Bill "Butch" Sunderlin, and honorary urn bearer is David Ratkowski.

Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Hemer Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.

William Marschke was born on April 17, 1936 in Rib Lake to the late Albert Louis Frederick and Loretta Ruth (Schaus) Marschke.

He attended Rib Lake area elementary schools, graduated from Rib Lake High School in 1953, and in 1955 attained his teacher's certificate from Taylor County Normal School in Medford. He taught as an elementary teacher for one year at Woodville Rural School.

He married in 1960 and later divorced. On Feb. 22, 1971 in Marquette, Mich., he married Bernadette F. Kane, who survives.

In 1956, he became part of the U.S. Air Force where he attained the rank of master sergeant and worked as a weather forecaster for 22 years until his retirement in 1978. While in the Air Force, he was stationed in Nevada, Tennessee, England, Germany, Taiwan and lastly at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base in Marquette. After retirement from the Air Force, he owned the Village Wash Laundromat in Rib Lake for six years, worked for the ASCS office as a farm land surveyor, then worked at Tombstone Pizza in Medford as an environmental control supervisor until his retirement in 1991.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Rib Lake American Legion Post No. 274, served on the Rib Lake Village Board, St. John's church council and Spirit Lake Improvement Association. He enjoyed fishing, picking berries, making firewood, being outdoors, gardening, playing cards, and spending time with his children and grandchildren, and was a Packers, Brewers and Dodgers fan.

In addition to his wife, survivors include six children. Robert Marschke and Sean Marschke, both of Rapid City, S.D., Penny (Mike) Oswood of Oregon House, Calif., Bill (Edie) Sunderlin of North Fond du Lac, Candy (Kane) (Mark) Rinehart of Medford and Karen (Kane) (Fritz) Balz of Athens; four siblings, Arlene Tucker and Robert (Kay) Marschke, both of Rib Lake, and Peggy (Fred) Scholz and Gayle (Paul) Scholz, both of Tomahawk; 11 grandchildren, Heather Norton, Dustin, Daniel, Matthew, Ariel and Nathaniel Rinehart, Gracie Balz, Jeremy Marschke, Jordan Marschke, and Carl and Christopher Oswood; and four great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to his family to be designated at a later date to Hope Hospice and Rib Lake American Legion Post No. 274.
