Keith W. Krug, 80, Medford, died on Monday, Oct. 27 at his home.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 31 at 11 a.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Medford, with Pastor Kris Bjerke-Ulliman officiating. Visitation will be at Our Saviour's on Thursday evening from 4 to 8 p.m., and from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday.
Atkins Northland Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Keith was born on March 11, 1934 in Holway to the late Fred and Myrtle (Larson) Krug. He attended Pine Creek Elementary School and graduated from Medford High School in 1952.
After high school he moved to Milwaukee where he worked at Standard Oil for two years before returning to Medford. On Oct. 2, 1954, he married Joan Baumgartner, who preceded him in death on March 26, 1998.
He worked at Medford Motors before opening his own mechanic's garage. He owned two milk trucks with routes in the area, and three school buses, contracted by the Medford School District. In 1964, Keith and Joan purchased land on Billings Avenue where they built their home and garage. Keith worked as a mechanic and continued operating school buses before obtaining the entire contract with the Medford School District, which his family continues to operate. He started Krug's Towing, which he later sold to his son. He also operated Krug Tours and enjoyed traveling with groups around the United States. Keith and Joan were foster parents for Taylor County.
Keith was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, American Bus Association, Wisconsin School Bus Association, United Motor Carriers Association, Wisconsin Towing Association and Good Sam RV Club. Keith was a member of the National Guard for four years.
Survivors include his children, Jim (Diane), Brian (Jeanne), Barb (Ed), Bob (Karen) and Bruce (Michele); siblings, David (Juanita), Judy (Galen) Nowak, Marian (Ken) Nernberger, Lavonne (Bernard) Dums; brother-in-law, Jim Prell; 10 grandchildren, Josh, Craig (Tara), Adam (Chelsey), Mandy, Austin, Sarah, Kenny and Dalton Krug, Emily (Aemus) Balsis, and Kaci (Nick) Klemm; special foster grandchild, Justin Spanjer; 10 step-grandchildren, Billie (Brian) Schilling, Aaron (Erin) Day, Ashley Valentine, Brittany Black, Jennifer and David Ridler, Austin and Morgan Salzgeber and Matt (Chrissy) and Kyle (Ashlee) Rowe: and 16 great-grandchildren with three on the way.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; sister, Charlotte Prell; and daughter-in-law, Susy.
The family would like to thank Wendy Geiger and his sister, Marian, for their faithful and devoted care given to Keith over the past several years.
