Scott Amacher, 402 Spruce Street, Abbotsford, graduated from the Navy Recruit Training at Great Lakes Training Center.

He is a member of the 1977 Milwaukee Brewer Recruit Company. For the past six year the U.S Navy in Wisconsin, with the support of the Milwaukee Brewers Club, has enlisted 75 – 83 young men from various parts of the state. The special company attended Recruit Training as a single unit.

While in Recruit Training, Seaman Amacher, along with the rest of the Brewers, received classroom and “hands-on” instructions in damage control, firefighting, first aid, ordnance and weapons, physical training, safety, Seamanship, customs and ceremonies, uniforms, small arms and survival.

He joined the Navy for the travel it offers. The 18-year-old graduate of Abbotsford High School said, “I just wanted to get out and get on a ship, travel and see different countries.

Michael Lange, 115 N. 1st Street Abbotsford, graduated from the Navy Recruit Training at Great Lakes Training Center.

Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Gokey are the parents of a daughter, Melissa Marie, born August 29, 1977 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. She weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces.

Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Bartnik and Mr. and Mrs. Vane Gokey, Colby.

Great-grandparents are Mrs. Frank Bartnik, Colby, Mrs. Joe Spanbauer, Medford, and Mrs. Vane Gokey Sr., Abbotsford. Great-great-grand parents are Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Jossart, Minocqua.

Bio: Mueller – Family Reunion (21 Aug 1977)

The descendants of the late Anna and George Mueller held their family reunion at the Spencer Park, Spencer, August 21, 1977.

Nine of the ten living children attended. They were Oscar Mueller, Athens, Clarence Mueller, Abbotsford, Mrs. Jack (Leona) Hauss, Mayville, Mrs. Arnold (Minnie) Barker, Mayville, Mrs. Fred (Dorothy) Nienow, Spencer, Arnold Mueller, Spencer, Mrs. Edwin (Esther) Weideman, Abbotsford, Orville Muller, Beaver Dam, and Mrs. Ralph (Elsie) Woik, Owen.

Dorothy Nienow displayed her photo album, which is compiled from the Mueller family tree.

Among the 92 persons present were grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Locations included Colby, Owen, Janesville, Madison, Prescott, Wausau, Withee, Mayville, Cedarburg, River Falls, Abbotsford, Manawa, Medford, and Salem, Oregon.

Another reunion will be held in August 1979.

Bio: Gresen, Willis – New Dorchester Police Chief (Aug 1977)

Recently hired as the Dorchester police chief was Willis Gresen, a recent graduate of Bemidji State College, Bemidji, Minnesota.

A native of Wausau, Gresen attended NCTI for two years in the police science course before transferring to Bemidji. Previous to attending school, he was in the Marine Corps for six years, attaining the rank of Sergeant.

While in the service, he served in Viet Nam, as well as being an embassy guard in South America for 2 ½ years.

Previous police experience includes an internship with the Bemidji police department.

Gresen, 30, and his wife Julie, a former employee of the Marathon County Social Service Department, are now living in Dorchester.

Wilke, Max & Verna (Gold – 26 Oct 1977)

Over 250 persons attended the open house honoring Mr. and Mrs. Max Wilke on their 50th Wedding Anniversary satu night at the Municipal Hall, Dorchester. Lunch and refreshments were served throughout the evening, and music was provided for dancing. Mrs. Clarence Stoiber made the decorated cake for the occasion.

Mr. and Mrs. Wilke were married at the United Methodist Church at Dorchester by the Rev. Walters on October 26, 1927. Their attendants were: George Wilke, Harold Winchell, Hilda Krakenberger Martens, and Eunice Winchell Heier. All of the attendants are now deceased.

Max Wilke was born in the Town of Mayville on November 11, 1904. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. August Wilke. The former Verna Winchell was also born in the Town of Mayville on May 18, 1911. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Del Winchell. The couple farmed until nine years ago, when Mr. Wilke suffered a stroke, which forced them to retire. They moved to a home not far from the village.

The Wilke’s have five children. They are: Mrs. Louis (Hilda) Boxrucker, Dorchester, Norman Wilke and Mrs. James (Bernice) Beck, Stevens Point, Mrs. Raymond (Darleen) Dassow and Mrs. Gene (Betty) Gebert, both of Medford. They have 22 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

About 100 relatives attended the family reunion of the Rohland family at the Curtiss Community Hall on Sunday, September 4, 1977. Relatives came from Kirkwood Missouri, Marshall, Minnesota, Milwaukee, Stevens Point, Abbotsford, Owen, Curtiss, Neenah, Marshfield Stetsonville and Thorp.

Pinter, Beth Ann (3 Sep 1977)

A princess line gown of white ala mode with Venice lace and pearl trim with a cathedral train was worn by Beth Ann Pinter when she became the bride of Gary Lou Thomsen on Saturday, September 3, 1977 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby. Her lace edged fingertip veil was held by a Camelot headpiece of matching lace and carried a crescent shaped bouquet of flowers.

Performing the 1:30 p.m. ceremony was the Rev. Francis Rushman. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. John Pinter, Dorchester, and Mrs. Beverly Thomsen, Dorchester.

Patricia Thomsen, Dorchester, was maid of honor. Carrie Olson, Colby, was the other attendant. They wore rust colored A-line gown with capes, and carried baskets of fall colored straw flowers.

Attending the bridegroom was Greg Thomsen, Milwaukee, as the best man. Daniel Pinter, Dorchester, was groomsman. Alan Pinter and Greg Gaulke were ushers.

A reception followed at the Medford VFW Clubhouse.

The couple both are graduates of the Colby High School and are employed at Pinter’s Packing Plant, Dorchester.
