Jack Abney, age 86 of Colby, passed away November 29, 2014 at Ministry St Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. He was surrounded by his loving wife and family.

Jack was born January 20, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan and was raised in Kentucky. In 1946 he enlisted in the US Army. He served in various locations such as Kansas, Germany, Great Lakes, Illinois, Colorado, Japan, South Korea and Vietnam. He was a master paratrooper, infantryman and an ROTC instructor.

During his travels, he met his beautiful bride Kathleen Kaiser, an Army nurse. They met and were married in 1956 and had four children before he retired from the Army in November, 1966. He moved the family to Colby in 1967 and they had three more children. He worked at Hubing Auto Supply until 1987 and then he worked at the Abbotsford Post Office until he retired.

Jack was on the 17th Honor Flight to Washington DC on September 8, 2014. His son Tony had the honor of being his guardian. Dad felt truly honored to spend the day in the company of comrades and heroes.

Jack is further survived by his siblings Ken (Helen) Abney, Glen Abney and Gail DeLeon all of Mt. Vernon, KY and brother-in-law Donald (Marlene) Kaiser, sister-in-law Ruth (Bob) Blume and many nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, a son Andrew, two brothers Virgil and Cecil, in-laws Andrew and Amanda Kaiser, sisters-in-law Mercedes Barr and Betty Abney, and four nephews Gary Abney, James Abney, Casey Blume and Michael Abney.
