Red Cross Honors Pat Mrotek
At the American Red Cross blood drive held Dec. 1 at the Neillsville American Legion Hall, Pat Mrotek of Neillsville was honored for her many years of faithful service.
During her 55-year tenure, Mrotek helped schedule, plan, promote and staff American Red Cross blood drives in Neillsville. She has done everything, including calling and scheduling donors, soliciting food donations and contacting local media. Mrotek has personally given over 100 pints of her own blood.
American Red Cross friends, volunteers and staff presented Mrotek with a cake and corsage to help celebrate her day.
Mrotek said she started volunteering with American Red Cross in Owen. When she moved back, it was natural for her to continue her volunteer work in Neillsville.
Although she started with blood drives, Mrotek also served in fundraising and disaster relief. Sometime during the 1980s, she took over as blood drive coordinator for Neillsville and has worked in the capacity ever since.
With the help of Mrotek and many dedicated community volunteers and donors, Neillsville blood drives have been able to provide American Red Cross with over 10,000 pints of blood to supply the needy wherever and wherever there was need. It has been a job well done by all.
