Wilma Frances Bradle was born on May 21, 1923, in the Town of Reseburg, rural Thorp, the daughter of Frank and Katherine (Hickman) Bradle. She was raised on the family farm and received her education in the Town of Reseburg, graduating from Thorp High School in 1941.
