Thiel, Esther C. (Hopfensperger) (2 JUN 1919 - 16 DEC 2011)

Esther C. Thiel, 92, Appleton, passed away on Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at Colony Oaks Care Center in Appleton.

Esther was born on June 2, 1919, on the family farm in Abbotsford, Wis., to the late Frank and Lena (Jochman) Hopfensperger.

She married Roman M. Thiel on Aug. 26, 1939 and together they shared 47 years of marriage. Esther was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Appleton.

She is survived by a son, James (Barbara) Thiel, Appleton; nine grandchildren, Tom (Shawn) Thiel, Appleton; Greg Thiel, Nashville, Tenn.; Dan (Debbie) Procknow, Cary, Ill.; Tom (Amy) Procknow, Neenah; Mike (Laurie) Tyvol, Appleton; Jeff Tyvol (Beth), Appleton; Kristine Tyvol, Appleton; Tim Snell, Appleton; Le Anne (Snell) Mishko, Oshkosh; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Her sisters-in-law, Shirley Hopfensperger, Myrna Hopfensperger, Marie Thiel and son-in-law, Del (Susan) La Marche also survives.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Roman; two daughters, Nancy (Thiel) La Marche and Charlotte (Thiel) Snell; infant great-grandson Mark; and four sisters, Alvina, Leona, Margaret and Irene; and six brothers, Orville, Lawrence, Harvey, Harold, Vilas and William.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011, at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, 222 E. Fremont Street, Appleton, with the Rev. Tony Ibekwe officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Esther's family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.Esther will be remembered for her kind and caring spirit.

The family wishes to thank Colony Oaks Care Center staff and nurses for their care and concern shown to Esther and family.
