Faber, Mildred Elanore (Milly) (6 May 1925 - 9 February 2015)

Mildred Elanore (Milly) Faber, 89, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2015, at the home of her daughter, Bonnie Faber, in Rice Lake. Milly was born May 6, 1925, in Chili, WI. She was the daughter of Ernest and Emma (Franke) Sanger. She attended Big Four and Cozy Corner Elementary Schools, Marshfield high School and Central State Teacher’s College in Stevens Point. She taught at maple Center School in Greenwood.

Milly was confirmed at Fremont Lutheran Church (Chili Corners) and attended Grace Lutheran Church in Nasonville and Christ Lutheran Church (Chili). She married Norman Faber Sept. 15, 1945, and began 40 years of farming with Norman. They had big gardens, raspberry patches and enjoyed maple syrup making in the spring. They had three children: Donald and twins Connie and Bonnie. She was a member of the West Fremont Homemakers Club, Christ Lutheran Ladies Aid, and Ralph Schram’s Bible Study.

After her husband’s death, she moved to Neillsville in February 1987. Milly attended Living Hope Church. She enjoyed singing and was a member of the Young at Heart Hymn Singers. Her love of music was expressed through substitute organ playing and 20 years of membership in the Sunshine Girls. She would accompany the group playing guitar, piano and autoharp. With her friend, Helen Dix, she sang songs at churches, Gilbertson Funeral Home, Owen Health Care Center, and Marshfield and Bethel Convalescent Centers. She enjoyed singing duets with Elaine Peroshek, Carol Ayers and Marie Ratsch.

Throughout her life, she enjoyed writing songs and poems. She filled 79 notebooks with her musical poetry. Milly wrote songs in recognition of people’s birthdays, graduations and anniversaries. She also made greeting cards and sympathy cards. She wrote poems for special events and occasions (some appeared in The Clark County Press).

Milly was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Emma Sanger; brothers: Elmer and Lawrence Sanger; sister, Evelyn Roehl; father-and mother-in-law, Ludwig and Emma Faber; son, Donald; husband, Norman, in September 1986; and daughter, Connie Halverson, in December 1999.
