Tibbett, Sophia K. (20 January 1878 - 7 December 1973)

A resident of Neillsville since 1929, Mrs. Sophia K. Tibbett of Memorial Home died December 7 at the age of 95. Funeral services were held Monday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles D. Brady officiating. Interment was in Forest hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls. The rosary was recited Sunday evening at the Georgas Funeral Home, where the body of Mrs. Tibbett was in state.

Born January 20, 1878, in Germany to Jacob and Katherine (Sipple) Gehweiler, Mrs. Tibbett came to Chippewa Falls with her parents at the age of three and received her education in area schools. Her marriage to William F. Tibbett, who worked in the lumber industry, took place in Chippewa Falls. They came to Neillsville in 1929 and operated the Tibbett Ice and Fuel business now owned by George Tibbett. Mrs. Tibbett was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was an honorary member of its PCCW Society.

She is survived by one son, George, of Neillsville; and by 10 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A brother, George Gehweiler of Jim Falls, also survives.

Pallbearers were Tommy, John, Bruce and Jim Tibbett, Don Mrotek and Gary Zsewetz.

Among those who attended the services were the following from out-of-town: Mr. and Mrs. Deward Gehweiler, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Gehweiler, George Gehweiler and Doris Leaven, Chippewa Falls; Mrs. Bonnie Parker, Mrs. Elenor Ladoux and Mr. and Mrs. William Hergenrother, Chicago, Il.; Mr. and Mrs. James Tibbett, Rockford, Il.
